Just for a moment, imagine a farmer who pays no attention to his crops. He fails to fertilize his soil. He fails to manage the weeds that grew. He fails to irrigate when the rains do not come. For that matter, he may have also failed to plant the seeds. But there was never a moment that he had any doubt of the bountiful harvest he would have. “Trust me.” He told his children. Everyone else is lying to you. I have it under control.
Meanwhile, he fired the farmhands because it was more cost effective.
He killed sheepdog and hired the wolves to protect his livestock.
Because he liked their style.
And they were just a bit more… tactical.
Predictably, when harvest season arrived there was no corn to be harvested. Just an overgrown field of weeds and thorns.
Out in the pasture, the livestock were all dead.
His children starved.
And the fattened wolves lay sleeping in the shade of the tree outside the house.
Unafraid.
And no one, except the foolish farmer, was surprised.
